Dive report: 6/19/04 Merci Rabi and C-One

Dive 1: Merci Rabi

Merci RabiThe wreck of the Captain Harry turned out to be a barge, so I wasn’t going to hold my breath for the Merci either. The ball snagged a culvert right next to, merci rabiyep you guessed it, another barge. This one was more interesting with more fish life on it. Grunts all over and baitfish hiding in the shadows.

On the South end there were culverts as far as the eye could see in the distance. Jody and I started swimming into the current to see how far they went? We swam for a good ten minutes before we didn’t see any more. On the way back I tried to map out a 1 to 1 of the culverts on the way back to the barge. There were more culverts out to the east outside of my field of view. Good Place for a scooter dive.

Dive 2: C-One

C-OneFor the second dive we anchored near the tugboat C-One. I went for a dive with the Full Monty, doubles, Al80 stage, and 2 Al40 stages. It took strength to push all that mass through the water, but it wasn’t that much worse than with just the AL 80 stage.

I swam the whole tour to the little tug to the East and the Conception to the North and back to the C-One. We circled the wreck again and then Jody started swimming through the engine compartment. There was some banging on the al40 on the leash behind me, but I slipped through the narrow doors with ease.

Back near the anchor we ran drills on moving bottles around, sharing gas, and loading all the bottles on one side or the other. It was great practice. I’m sure the next dive with one al40 is going to feel like butter through the water.
